Victorian
Style Bathroom Remodel
|
|
|
|
| This
was a complete renovation of this 100 year
old bathroom in a Denver home. The
extensiveness of the under-taking of the
construction of what looks like a small
and simple space can be deceiving. Most of
these remodels involve taking most of the
space down to the original studs or even
farther, combined with usually extensive
reconstruction just to true up and
straighten out the highly un-level floor
sub-structure and the non-plumb walls.
This one even involved removal of the
ceiling.
Many
times these projects are like a forensic autopsy,
revealing many layers of previous work
that has been done over the years, much of
which has to be removed and/or redone
before new work can even begin, this one
was no exception, demolition revealed not
only a 2nd ceiling but a false rear wall
with 6" of dead space behind it.

Everything
is new in this project, the bathtub,
toilet, pedestal sink, mirror, fixtures,
even the shelving unit in the wall, which
was custom built on site for this project.
Nothing could be reused from the original
bathroom. An arch was added in the ceiling
above the bathtub to separate the
showering area and gave us the ability to
add crown molding to the rest of the
room. Period authentic penny
tile flooring ties the new features to the
homes 100 year heritage.
The completion of the project provided our
customer Sarah with a new bathroom that
looks wonderful, will remain trouble free,
and added a tremendous amount of value to
her home. |
Sub
way tile and authentic 4x4 tiles combine with a
modern wall niche and glass tile.
