"My
husband and I rarely take baths, we simply
don’t have the time, the shower seems to
get the most use. We are planning a master
bathroom remodel and wonder if removing
the tub and using the extra space by
opting for one of those designer showers
would be a good idea or a foolish one."

For
a long time it seems emphasis in designer
bathroom remodeling has centered on the
bathtub. The bigger the better was the
motto and the epitome of luxury was a big
whirlpool tub. But, over the last decade
the trend has slowly been changing.
Emphasis is now on bigger and more
elaborate showers rather than whirlpool
tubs. His and hers, multi heads and body
jets are becoming more and more common as
the most desired upgrade in a bathroom
remodel. Most experts seem to agree that
as long as there is at least one other
bathtub in the house, having a shower only
in the master bath isn’t a serious
resale issue. With our busy lifestyles
this trend doesn’t look to be reversing
any time soon.
Experts are saying:
"Some
homeowners are even doing away with the
tub altogether, making room instead for a
bigger and better shower. Showers
have come a long way in the past 10 years
and are given so much more consideration
now in terms of making a shower an
experience. It used to be that you just
wanted a showerhead and hot and cold
water. Now it's everything: massage heads,
his-and-hers showerheads, steam units,
body sprays. "

"Homeowners
now realize that while they may not always
have the time for a bath, they're in the
shower every day. Accordingly, they are
starting to equip the shower with an
assortment of features intended to ensure
its role as a place for not just bathing
but relaxation and rejuvenation as well.
