The shower has over-taken the bathtub as the dominate feature in today's master bathroom

Steve and Chris contacted us for help modernizing their master bathroom so it would better match the rest of their beautifully remodeled home.

At the top of there list was getting rid of the awkward bathtub / shower and exploring the possibility of putting in a large his and hers stand alone shower.

The final results as you can see are stunning.

Their shower has matching double shower heads in oil-rubbed bronze finishes, a euro-style frameless glass enclosure, two corner shelves, and a shaving foot rest.

We tiled the walls from floor to ceiling with a lovely porcelain tile, laid in a brick or bond-on-bond pattern.

A decorative tile listello line runs through the walls for an accent.

The lighting from before was a bit inadequate so we increased the lighting by removing the single recessed light and installing two in it's place.

The before picture shows the awkward bathtub / shower that was replaced. I think it would be easy to classify this as the worst of both worlds, not a great experience before whether you were using it as a shower or a bathtub.

More and more of our customers are breaking away from being tied to thinking you have to have a  bathtub in the master bathroom. It's simply not the case anymore.

People are beginning to realize that being functional and having a bathroom that works for your lifestyle is much more important than being bound by out-dated thinking that we must keep a bathtub in the master bathroom or we will hurt resale value.

When you consider that the idea of increasing resale value really means increasing appeal enough to someone that they want to purchase it, it then should begin to make sense that making changes like this are adding appeal, because few of us are using a bathtub in our daily lives, but we are using a shower, so making the shower the center piece of your bathroom really only makes sense.

The vanity area before

After

The second part of the remodeling project involved the vanity area.

While the basic foot print of the vanity area / cabinets stayed the same, there were still a lot of smaller changes that added up to a dramatic difference.

The obvious change that stands out is the cabinets were updated to a sleek shaker style maple in a more comfortable height.

The over-head lighting soffit (which as you can see from the before picture created a horrible lighting situation) was removed and new lighting was installed over the new his and hers mirrors. All lighting was converted to to be controlled by dimmers for added comfort.

The counter tops were redone in a nice high-quality  porcelain tile, and for some continuity we did the backsplash using the same tile that runs through the shower deco line.

The sinks were actually great quality and in great condition and were able to be recycled and re-installed. Of course new faucets were used that match the showering suite, along with matching towel bars and the wall mounted make-up mirror.

The carpet flooring was removed and the tile from the shower room continues into the vanity area.

After

Here are some close-up pictures of the vanity before and after.  Which show the beautiful quality and workmanship that goes into every one of our projects.

We want to thank Chris and Steve for allowing us to help them with this great remodeling project. It's always a pleasure to work with a couple who have such  great tastes and sense of style.
