Color
Color sets the mood, it sets the tone,
it's by far the most important consideration
you have when considering design. Earth
tones are very much in demand in Colorado,
they seem to fit our lifestyle and
sensibilities. But color can be bold also
and contemporary. Do you want to make a
modern statement? Then use modern color
treatments, are you more traditional, then
use more muted and pastel colors. Varying
the walls, counters, and floor tile
colors will change the look of a room
dramatically.

Direction
and Pattern
Tile can have movement and direction by your
choice of pattern. A block or grid pattern
can be static and sensible, a simple turning
of your tile on a 45 to make a diagonal
pattern can add interest and movement. There
are herringbone, basket weaves, insets with
borders and many more patterns. They all
will bring their personality to your design,
so choose wisely.

Grout
Choose your grout carefully. A grout in a
contrasting color of the tile will
emphasize the tile pattern, a grout with
complimentary colors of the tile will
emphasize the tile.

Size
The size of the tiles will effect the look
of your design. Small tiny 1"x1"
tiles have a much different look than
24"x24" tiles. The
13"x13" tile is the 'standard'
size for tile. Using larger or smaller tiles
and combining them will effect the look will
achieve. Too large of a tile overpowers the
design, as can too small a tile.

Decoration
There are decorative tiles available such as
listellos, corners, insets and mosaics that
you can add to your design. You can create
medallions or an area rug look on a floor,
you can create visual interest with
horizontal lines of listellos on a wall.
Texture
You can use various textures together for
unique effects. You can inset different
tiles or stones to create a pattern. |
